MEL Gingell has challenged his players to repay his faith in them in Tuesday night's South West Counties Championship grand final against Gloucestershire.

The Wiltshire youth team manager has spent all season talking up his young side but he knows Tuesday's final is where they need to perform.

Wiltshire finished top of their group having won all five of their games, scoring 26 goals and conceding only two, and go into Tuesday's final as slight favourites.

Their squad boasts Chippenham Town midfielder Lee Davidson and Bath City midfielders Ricky Hulbert and Yan Klukowski.

The final will be held at Swindon Town's County Ground, kick-off 7.30pm.

Gingell said: "After the season we have had we now need some silverware. There is no point in having had such a great season if we don't get something out of it.

"We should have our best side out and I see no reason why we should not do well. I have watched them and they are a good side but I know we can do it.

"If we can get the ball down and play our usual football then we should have too much for a big, strong Gloucestershire."

Wiltshire have not won the overall championship for over ten years but Gingell insists his team are capable of bringing that run to an end.

He said: "This is the best chance Wiltshire will ever have of winning the championship. It would be a disaster if we did not win it, not only for the team but for me as well because I have put my confidence in them all season.

"All the way through I have been shouting the odds about them and it is up to them now to go out and prove I was right.

"This is the last time they will be together in the youth team but I do intend in bringing a lot of them through to the senior side next season."
