JOHN Fitchen has revealed Trowbridge Town would consider applying for a place in the Hellenic League next season but only as a last resort.

The club look on course to win the Wiltshire League Premier Division championship and are still hoping they will granted a place in the Screwfix League next season.

That would depend on their ground meeting Screwfix League requirements and Trowbridge are currently waiting for planning permission to build a new stand at their Woodmarsh ground.

They should hear whether they have been granted permission by May 13 but will have to wait a further month until the Western League's AGM to find out whether the league will allow them promotion.

If planning permission is not given by the district council then Town chairman, Fitchen, admits they may have to explore other routes.

He said: "The Hellenic League does have easier grading requirements I understand so if planning permission is turned down we would look at that possibility.

"But I believe will be allowed so we should be in the Screwfix next season if we finish as league leaders.

"Our problem is we are running out of time. I expect the Hellenic League will want application to be coming in already so it could be too late for us.

"Also by the time we get the planning permission we will have less then a month to erect the stand in time for the crucial AGM."

Fitchen stresses that even if Trowbridge are allowed promotion it would not be a long term solution.

He said: "We cannot go any further at Woodmarsh. Even though it would probably take us five or ten years to look to go up again we would need to be at another ground.

"The main problem is the lack of facilities in Trowbridge. We are desperate for another site in West Wilts but it is a struggle. Leisure facilities in this area seem to be lagging behind anywhere else in the country and something needs to be done about it."
