I HAVE followed with interest the ongoing coverage of the dispute as to the location of the new record office building.
It seems to me that the whole process is locked into a course pre-determined by ego and pique rather than by logic and good judgement.
The county council lost two Heritage Lottery Fund bids because of their choice of site and yet despite this they are resolutely determined to force through the Chippenham site at any cost.
I was under the impression county councillors were elected to work in the best interests of their electors, yet this drive towards a Pyrrhic victory, with everyone a loser, will be paid for by Wiltshire council taxpayers, allegedly to the tune of £55 per household.
Excuses that this sum will come out of this pot of money or that pot of money really cuts no ice; the cost of this victory will come out of funds which are supposed to be managed for the benefit of the people of Wiltshire, not squandered on some project which will primarily benefit Swindon!
