THE hunt is on to find this year's Trowbridge Carnival Queen with anyone from 16 to 60-years-old invited to have a go.
The Wiltshire Times is linking up with Trowbridge Town Council for this year's event, which has undergone a radical revamp to make the competition more glamorous to entrants.
This year's carnival queen will be given a higher profile role in the community, with invites to some of the town's most prestigious events.
We are inviting people to nominate a friend, relative, workmate or even themselves to be this year's carnival queen, with successful applicants winning through to a selection event at Trowbridge Snooker Club on June 25.
Wiltshire Times editor Toby Granville will be among a panel of judges to decide who will top the bill at this year's carnival procession. All finalists will be interviewed by town crier Trevor Heeks.
Mr Granville said he was delighted to judge the event and hoped the women of Trowbridge would help boost the profile of the town's premier event.
"I am positive there are plenty of women in Trowbridge who could fulfil this role and I hope their friends and relatives will put them forward," he said.
"The competition is not all about looks, it is personality that counts.
"A carnival queen needs to care about the community, enjoy meeting people and be outgoing and sociable.
"I look forward to judging the entrants."
Steve Nash, community development officer at Trowbridge Town Council, said the contest was open to all.
"It is never too late to be the carnival queen," he said.
"You can be from 16 to 60-years-old. It is about getting more involved in the community. They will be switching on the Christmas lights and attending the mayor's Civic Dinner and Dance."
