FORMER Trowbridge schoolgirl Gemma Hunt is the new face of mainstream children's TV just a year into her presenting career.

Ex-John of Gaunt pupil Gemma, 22, became a prime time children's presenter on BBC1 earlier this month, taking over from Angellica Bell.

Gemma, of Hilperton Road, has been presenting on digital channel CBBC since last June, after producers liked her show reel and offered the Luton University graduate a screen test.

Gemma, who will link up with presenter Andrew Haydn-Smith, said: "I received a phone call asking me to pop in and meet with Paul Smith, the big boss of CBBC.

"I was told it was not anything to worry about, but it's only natural when you are called in to meet someone so senior.

"Andrew arrived and Paul asked if we knew each other. I said yes and he said 'good because you are going to be working more closely in the future'.

"I was overjoyed. I am still very much the new girl so it came as a complete shock to be asked to fill such big boots. It's an amazing opportunity and I am going to give it my very best shot."

Gemma, who graduated with a media performance degree less than a year ago, said one bonus of the new job would be getting the chance to catch up with family and friends on weekends.
