CHIPPENHAM TOWN are no longer masters of their own destiny in the bid to qualify for the new Conference Division.

To make the play-offs, the Bluebirds must win at Hinckley tomorrow and rely on at least two of their rivals slipping up.

That would seem a tall order.

Town fans will be hoping neighbours Bath City lose even more so than usual.

The Romans entertain a Welling side already guaranteed Conference status.

A Dover defeat to Stafford is also on the wishlist, while Chelmsford must get no more than a point against Merthyr Tydfil.

Chippenham manager Steve White knows the odds are against his side.

"It's out of our hands," he said.

"All we have to worry about is winning our game.

"Then we will wait on two of the other three teams losing.

"The odds are against it because of the calibre of the three teams above us, but it could happen.

"Bath and Dover are former Conference clubs and have a massive weight of expectation on them."

If results elsewhere go against Town, they will face life in a diluted Premier Division next term, featuring the top seven clubs from the Eastern and Western Divisions.

But White is not considering tomorrow's permutations or the implications of failure.

The boss points to his record since arriving at the club in November and insists his troops have done the club proud since then.

"If we can win and get to 49 points I will be happy regardless of what happens," said White.

"That total has historically been enough to finish out of the bottom four.

"I couldn't ask for anything more from my players. They have been excellent in the second half of the season.

"The biggest problem we have had was the diabolical start we made to the season.

"On form since I came to the club we would be in the top five."

White is sweating on the fitness of two key men ahead of the crucial Hinckley showdown.

Defender Tom Gould and midfielder Mark Badman continue to struggle with hamstring strains and both are doubtful starters.

Gary Horgan has recovered after hobbling out of last week's 4-0 win over Moor Green in which teenage striker James Constable scored a hat-trick.

Horgan faces stiff competition from Scott Walker for his midfield role after the winger impressed as a substitute last week.

IT'S been another turbulent week for the Bluebirds off the field, with director Derek Hooper resigning from the board.

Hooper steps down at the end of the season but will remain at the club to assist newly-appointed sales executive Lauren McKell.

Hooper's resignation leaves just three members left on the executive committee and the remaining members are seeking new investors to help wipe out the club's debts, believed to be more than £30,000.
