COMPETITORS enjoyed good sport with carp in the Wilts Angling Open match at Witherington Farm on Sunday.
Chippenham matchman Julian Heaven hit the magic ton mark to win with an all-carp catch of 101lb 8oz, taken alternating with pole-fished pellets and sweetcorn.
Runner-up was Martin Barrett, of Trowbridge, with another carp catch weighing 83lb 2oz, taken with the same methods.
He was followed by Pete Neate, of Holt, with a carp catch weighing 79lb 12oz, taken on pole-fished pellets on a 14 hook.
Other placings: 4 Liam Braddell, Warminster, 77lb 4oz; 5 Steve Gardner, Chippenham, 55lb 14oz; 6 Fred Eagles, Trowbridge, 50lb 11oz.
There was close result in the Ivy House midweek open match.
Ivy House matchman Simon Jones won with a carp catch weighing 30lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished soft pellets on a 14 hook, taken from the golden peg and earned him winnings of over £300.
Runner-up was Sensas Bathampton matchman Lee Trivett with another carp catch weighing 30lb 4oz, taken on pole-fished pellets on a 14 hook.
Mosella matchman Lee Nutland was a close up third with a carp catch of 29lb 12oz, with Ivy House matchman Simon Stacey fourth with 28lb 10oz.
Witherington Farm was in prime form for the midweek open match with carp feeding well.
Gary Etheridge, of Devizes, took another good win with a carp catch weighing 97lb 2oz, taken alternating with pole-fished pellets and sweetcorn for a comfortable win.
Runner-up was Cormorants matchman Nigel Tappin with a carp catch weighing 65lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook. He was followed by Eastleigh Mosella matchman Paul White with a carp catch weighing 59lb 2oz.
The third round of the Ivy House pairs competition was fished in heavy rain.
Westerleigh matchman John Andres won on the carp lake with a carp catch weighing 69lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished soft pellets. He won the pairs event with Ray Andres.
The Wilts Angling open match fished at Hordle Lakes on Wednesday produced excellent weights.
Ian Willetts, of Bradford, won with an all carp catch weighing 104lb 1oz, taken alternating with pole-fished sweetcorn and pellets for a comfortable win.
Runner-up was Fred Eagles, of Trowbridge, with a carp catch of 85lb 9oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook. He was followed by Steve Gardner, of Chippenham, with a carp catch of 71lb 7oz, taken on pole-fished cat meat on a 12 hook. Other placings: 4 Pete Neate, Holt, 69lb 5oz; 5 Gerry Lugg, Beckington, 64lb 9oz; 6 Martin Barrett, Trowbridge, 45lb oz.
Weights were fairly even in the Wilts Angling Open match fished at Landsend Fishery. Bob Gould, of Melksham, won with a mixed catch of skimmers and small carp weighing 35lb 15oz, taken on pole fished red maggots on an 18 hook.
Graham Potter, of Trowbridge, was second with a mixed catch of skimmers and tench weighing 28lb 4oz, taken on pole-fished pellets.
Dave Baker, of Trowbridge, was third with an all-skimmer catch weighing 26lb 1oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots.
