Ref. 30111-13Swindon's Turkish community held a party to celebrate their national children's day.

About 120 people of Turkish or Turkish Cypriot origin gathered at Grange Drive Community Centre, Stratton St Margaret, to mark the festival.

Shen Ismet, 33, from Coleview, said: "We were really pleased with the turnout and everyone had a good time."

Children recited Turkish poetry and played games as part of the celebrations.

Traditional Turkish music and food, including pastries, was also enjoyed.

Shen helped set up a group for Swindon's Turkish community, called Turk Halk Birligi, which means the unity of Turkish people, in March.

She said: "We organised a party in February and it went so well, we decided to form a proper group."

The group now plans to hold a picnic and barbecue next month.
