MEMBERS of Swindon's Old Town Rotary Club have been tantalising their taste buds in aid of the Macmillan appeal.

The club organised a curry night on Friday evening at the Haweli restaurant in Victoria Road, Old Town.

About 50 people went along to the restaurant for the buffet and a total of £260 was raised for the appeal, which the Evening Advertiser is backing.

The Haweli, which is regularly honoured by curry connoisseur groups for its cuisine, was happy to help with such a good cause.

Event organiser Adrian King said: "We all had a great evening.

"The Haweli provided a superb buffet and we would like to thank them on behalf of the Macmillan nurses, which is our main charity this year.

"The nurses do such a good job locally and we are all delighted to have been able to support them."

The club was today staging its annual duck race along the River Ray at the Wootton Bassett Recreation Ground.

A drake race was due to start at 2.30pm, followed by a duck race beginning at 3.30pm.

More than 4,000 ducks have already been sold and the club expects the 2004 event to be a great, fun day out.

In past years, many hundreds of pounds have been raised for the club's chosen good causes.
