JUVENTUS lifted the Swindon Sunday League's Knockout Cup with a little help from a Swindon Town legend playing in unfamiliar territory.

Juve defeated Division One rivals Moonrakers 2-1 after extra time with Fraser Digby making a cameo appearance as a centre forward.

Digby entered the fray during the additional half an hour after the two sides were deadlocked at 1-1 at Supermarine's Hunts Copse ground.

The former County Ground favourite made a nuisance of himself among the Moonies defence but it was left to a man more accustomed to the striking role to seal the trophy.

Former Supermarine and Highworth frontman Tate Hulbert, currently playing for Shrivenham on a Saturday, headed home with little more than a minute left to break the Moonies' hearts.

Cup joy for Juve goes some way to atoning for a disappointing league campaign which has seen the perennial title challengers struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Manager Leo Colucci said: "It was a hard-fought game.

"Fraser was just behind Tate when he headed it in so if Tate had missed it, I think Fraser would have been the hero.

"We haven't had the best of seasons so we had to win the cup final to regain some pride at the club.

"Usually we're challenging Greyhound for the title this season we are fourth from bottom.

"With the quality of the players we've got we should be challenging. Hopefully we'll be back up there next season."

Normal time had been largely uneventful but keenly contested and it was the Moonies who started the better.

After five minutes Paul Parsons lobbed just over with the Juventus keeper Darrell Smith out of position.

This was followed by Chris Flanagan firing just wide.

Yet it was Juventus who took the lead on 20 minutes courtesy of a cracking drive from Nathan Perkins.

There was nothing to choose between the two sides in the second half but the Moonies eventually forced extra time with a late equaliser.

Ian Bevan had missed a golden opportunity with a free header at a corner, a linesman's flag ruled out another effort but it was left to Barry Armstrong to scramble the ball home with virtually the last kick of normal time.

Extra time saw the appearance of Digby in place of the injured Carl Watkins.

Parsons almost put Moonies in front when he shot just over and Digby headed wide at the other end.

Juve's Mike O'Sullivan then had a point-blank header saved by Moonies keeper Mark Hull and at the other end Armstrong blasted over when well positioned.

Hulbert, who had just had a previous strike saved, then sealed the match for Juventus with a superb header from O'Sullivan's right-wing cross.
