Ref. 30187-12A TUG of war contest in Purton will help buy new play equipment for children in the village.
The contest has been organised by the Purton Extreme Sports Team (Pest) for the past two years. This weekend's event was at the Redhouse playing fields.
Eight teams took part and the winning team was called British Beef with the runners up being Lager Lout Ladies, who were actually members of the working men's club dressed up as the fairer sex.
More than 200 people turned up, with Pest volunteers laying on a barbecue and a bar.
Pest member Keith Taylor, 38, of the Hyde, said: "It was an excellent day, everything went really well.
"The barbecue and bar sold out, it went down well. We didn't have a team this year, we were too busy organising everything."
Last year's event raised £600 which helped buy a new bouncy castle. This year's takings are still being counted.
"We hope to raise more than we did last year and it looks like we are going to beat the target," Keith added.
