SCHOOLCHILDREN are celebrating a £10,000 windfall. The money, from the Barclays New Futures scheme, will be used to create a project for up to ten youngsters from different cultural backgrounds documenting what it is like to be a child from that background in Swindon.
After that has finished children from those cultural groups will look at what the project has recorded, and by 2006 all 69 schools in Swindon will have access to the material.
Drove Primary is one of the schools awarded a share of £1 million. Headteacher Nick Capstick said: "The project will help to celebrate the diverse cultures found in Swindon and create more empathy and understanding between communities."
South Swindon MP Julia Drown says: "I congratulate Drove School for getting this funding which will enable their students and many others too to learn more about each other and the different communities we all come from. This project will enable the children to learn from each other and will bring to life some of their studies."
