Devizes bounced back from their loss to Glastonbury to inflict a crushing defeat on Lansdown, cruising home with seven wickets and 29 balls to spare.

A fine knock of 62 off 80 balls from Tim Saye led the way as Devizes chased 179 for victory, and then an unbroken stand of 68 between Jake McCauley (31) and Simon Whatling (39) sealed a positive and professional performance from the home side.

Lansdown had struggled for fluency in their innings, with both openers surviving 21 overs but unable to get on top of some accurate seam bowling.

A brisk opening spell from James Ashford-Brown deserved reward, but despite frequently troubling the batsmen he was replaced by Mark Banham, who broke through with the wicket of Barton for 38. After the opening stand of 70, Lansdown then lost their next five wickets for only 55, using another19 overs in the process.

Joe Hickey bowled with good accuracy and stamina and was thoroughly rewarded with figures of 3-53 from 15 overs. Banham produced another excellent spell of 3-38 from 15 overs at the other end and both were backed up by some athletic fielding.

Lansdown's total looked inadequate but Paul Jarvis picked up the wicket of Paul Stobbart early on, leaving Rich Wright and Tim Saye to rebuild. Both batted with great composure before Alban bowled Wright for 19 with the score on 51. Saye batted positively and Simon Whatling scored a rumbustious 39 off only 34 balls, punishing anything with any width as he and McCauley eased Devizes past their target.

Devizes will be looking to produce much the same when they travel to Bristol to face the West Indians on Saturday.
