MEMBERS of the Hampshire business networking group, Ambassadors, went to Somerley House, near Ringwood on the latest leg of their visit programme.

The county council's executive member for economic development, Michael Woodhall, joined 50 Hampshire ambassadors at the invitation of the Earl of Normanton, as part of the county-wide initiative to promote Hampshire businesses, meeting venues and tourism.

There was a presentation by general manager Richard Horridge and a tour of the house, which is the stately home of the sixth Earl of Normanton and his family.

It is not open directly to the public, but is available for a wide range of corporate and private events.

Mr Woodhall said: "Somerley House is a unique building set in an inspirational rural location, yet not far from road, rail and air links. It's a fine example of the excellent conference facilities available across the county. The Hampshire Ambassadors want to encourage businesses from Hampshire and beyond to explore the wealth of cultural and recreational facilities available in the county."
