CDs, DVDs, books and other Reader's Digest orders will be passing through Swindon after a distribution firm won a renewal of its multimillion pound contract.

Vertis Fulfilment Services, in Frankland Road on Blagrove industrial estate, won the contract in a three-year competitive tender, which initially involved more than 30 companies across Europe.

It means Reader's Digest will continue using Vertis to send out promotional envelopes and parcels, which include the range of books, CDs, videos, DVDs and other catalogue items.

At any one time the Vertis Fulfilment Services site will hold between 3,500 and 5,000 pallets of Reader's Digest material, which can be dispatched at short notice.

Vertis managing director John Owens said: "We are delighted to continue our relationship with Reader's Digest.

"As our biggest client, this contract acts as a backbone to our business and allows us to continue to grow and develop the Swindon operation.

"Another exciting development is the recent introduction of a rapid dispatch service, meaning Reader's Digest will benefit from shorter lead times, significantly improving their customer service."

Lynn Diplock, Reader's Digest's UK operations director, said: "We are looking forward to the continued partnership with Vertis.

"The fulfilment process has been well-honed over the last five years and the new contract encourages an innovative and creative approach which will add value to both businesses and ultimately to our respective end customers."

Vertis has guaranteed that up to 10,000 orders of a particular product will be dispatched by 4pm provided they are received by 2am that day.

Vertis Fulfilment Services is part of Vertis Europe, which has six UK sites and one in France.

Reader's Digest Association's flagship magazine, Reader's Digest, is the largest-selling magazine in the world, published in 48 editions and 19 languages, and sold in 60 languages.

In Britain it sells more than a million copies a month.

l Vertis is also celebrating the fact Hamish Yeates, a long-term temporary worker, was nominated for a highly commended at the Temp of the Year awards run by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.

Hamish, from Wise Employment, has worked at Vertis for six years, and Vertis warehouse manager Bill Ramsdale said: "Hamish has been a true asset to Vertis for many years.

"His commitment and support have been outstanding and we are all truly delighted."
