CEDRIC the Dragon - mascot of children's charity NCH - visited Woodlands First School in Salisbury, to judge a competition that has helped increase awareness of their new neighbourhood play rangers.
Pupils from the school, together with those from St Martin's and Stratford-sub-Castle primaries, were asked to design posters that could be printed and used by the charity's family centre on Bemerton Heath.
The play rangers are an initiative by the centre to encourage five- to 13-year-olds to participate in fun and exciting activities such as dance and sport.
Centre manager Lynne Wheeler said: "The areas of Bemerton Heath, the Friary and Partridge Way have lots of potential for positive outdoor activity in local open spaces.
"Schools, young people and local families are very involved in the planning of activities with the play rangers.
"This age-group has so much energy and creativity and we are making it easier for them to enjoy their after-school hours, make new friends and learn new skills."
Anyone who likes working with young people and is interested in becoming a play ranger or a volunteer at the NCH centre in Salisbury can call Lynne Wheeler on 01722 340182.
