IN May, the children of Pitton School invited a "special friend" to come and visit them at school.

On the Friday afternoon before half-term, the school was filled with grandparents, parents, and villagers who had accepted the children's invitations.

The school is one of the best-equipped schools in Wiltshire for ICT, and shrieks of delight were heard - mainly from the adults, as they were introduced to the new technology the children use in their modern learning environment.

The "special friends" also got to try their hand at basketball, and some grandparents could not resist practising for the next match before the end of the school day.

Headteacher David Morgan said that the day had been a great success and thanked all who had helped organise the event, including the Friends of Pitton School, who supplied refreshments for both the guests and their hosts.

The two village schools of Pitton and Farley met in a field midway between the two villages to celebrate Ascension Day.

The Reverend Diana Sanders led the short act of collective worship.
