NORTH WILTS JUNIOR CRICKET LEAGUE: AFTER a disastrous start against league leaders Chippenham, Wootton Bassett recovered thanks to a determined innings of 41 not out from Jack Dymoke.

Thanks to Dymoke, Bassett were able to reach 81-6 in their 20 overs. Harry Brothwood took 3-7 for Chippenham. Chippenham made a steady reply but were unable to keep up with the required run rate against accurate Bassett bowling. Guy Brothwood (27) and Andrew Edwards (14 not out) were the top scorers for Chippenham as the home side finished on 66-6 leaving Bassett winners by 15 runs. Robbie Pamphilon (2-15), J. Reynolds (2-16) and Dymoke (1-8) took the wickets for Bassett (Chippenham 4 points, Wootton Bassett 15 points).

Swindon moved to within two points of Chippenham following a 67 run victory at Biddestone.

Jonathan Sore (20) and George Penfold (42 not out) batted well for Swindon as the visitors scored 103-2 and Alex Warburton took 2-16 for Biddestone. In reply, Biddestone lost seven very cheap wickets before Samuel Copeland (18) brought some respectability to the score and the home side were eventually dismissed for 36. The bowling honours for Swindon were shared by William Holmes (3-6), Lee Baden (2-6), Cameron Baden (2-10) and David Miles (3-5). (Biddestone 1 point , Swindon 21 points).

A high scoring match at Calne saw the home side total 104-2 in their 20 overs with Craig Edwards (45 not out) and Stewart Windsor (22) leading the way.

An outstanding innings from Cannings' opener Owen Alsop then saw Cannings home by nine wickets. Alsop dominated the Cannings innings as he made 76 not out enabling Cannings to win with 5 overs to spare (Calne 3 points, Cannings 14 points).

Corsham batted first at Malmesbury and with valuable contributions from Jacob Unwin (15), Edward Wilson (16) and J. Barnes (18 not out) totalled 110-5 in their 20 overs. Tom Dally was the leading Malmesbury bowler taking 2-16 in his 4 overs. Despite 25 from Matthew Beck, Malmesbury were pinned down by accurate Corsham bowling. Michael Clubbe took 2-8 in his 4 overs as Malmesbury finished on 66-4 to leave Corsham winners by 44 runs (Corsham 15 points, Malmesbury 3 points).

U13

CHIPPENHAM went to the top of the U13 table with a convincing 169 run victory at home to Biddestone.

James Vince, who the next day was selected for the West of England U13 squad along with Calne's Courtney Earl, led the way with a rapid 89 as Chippenham raced to 220-5 in their 32 overs. Vince was well supported by Tom Young (36), Uzi Qureshi (35 not out) and Marcus Brown (43). Andrew Lawton took 2-38 for Biddestone. Vince then starred with the ball taking 4-2 in 3 overs as Biddestone were dismissed for just 51 in 18 overs with Robbie Jones (2-7) also amongst the wickets (Chippenham 24 points, Biddestone 2 points).

U15

JACK Ward (51) and Sam Higginbottom (27) enjoyed a solid third wicket partnership for Malmesbury at Biddestone but once they were dismissed the later batting faltered against accurate Biddestone bowling.

Malmebury were dismissed for 119 in 32 overs. Joshua Barnes (2-14), Chris Casey (2-10), Ritchie Stone (2-25) and Joshua Taylor (2-24) led the Biddestone attack. After the loss of two early wickets, Tom Needham (41 not out) and Josua Barnes (37) then saw Biddestone home by eight wickets in the thirty first over. The win took Biddestone to the top of the table. (Biddestone 21 points, Malmesbury 3 points).

A hundred by Chippenham captain Tim Rowson enabled Chippenham to take maximum batting points as they scored 200-1 declared in 45 overs at Purton.

Rowson hit 19 fours in his innings of 107 not out and he was well supported by Phil Adams (36) and Zurain Qureshi (29 not out). Purton put up very solid resistance when they batted led by opener Adam Miles. Miles batted throughout the innings for 76 not out including 6 fours to ensure that Purton earned a hard-fought losing draw as their innings finished on 133-5. Scott Mackie took 3-23 for Chippenham (Purton 6 points, Chippenham 13 points).

The Calne opening attack of Adam Johnson (5-21) and Courtney Earl (2-26) had visitors Wootton Bassett in deep trouble as the first four batsmen were dismissed without scoring.

Aaron Stevens then played an outstanding innings to rescue Bassett. Stevens hit 86 and enabled Bassett to reach 130 before they were bowled out in the 34th over. Earl (51) gave the Calne reply a innings an express start and then C. Mcdaid (26 not out) and Andrew Windsor (13 not out) saw Calne to a comfortable 8 wicket victory in the 22nd over (Calne 22 points, Wootton Bassett 4 points).
