MORE than 100 new jobs will be created this summer when a frozen food distributor moves to Swindon.

But the news for Swindon's economy is mixed this week as insurance company Heath Lambert has announced it is shedding 25 jobs as it moves a risk processing department to London.

Kerry Foods Direct To Store will be opening a 60,000ft regional distribution centre on the Dorcan industrial estate.

The firm is responsible for delivering food including Walls, Mattessons, Frijj, and Heinz sandwiches.

The jobs will mainly be in dispatch but there will also be some positions available in personnel and administration. Swindon's base will cover the south of England and mirror a regional distribution centre in Manchester which covers the north of the country and Scotland. Paul Stubbins, sales and marketing director of KFDTS, said: "We're looking forward to opening operations in Swindon, which is ideally situated to serve our customers in the south of England."

At the moment KFDTS has 34 depots across the country and 425 refrigerated vans.

Heath Lambert's risk processing staff have been invited to apply for 30 risk processing positions to stay in Swindon, and 25 in London. The changes mean that the remaining 25 people will lose their jobs.

The company, currently in Temple Street, is about to sign a 10-year lease on new premises in Swindon, but has not yet confirmed where they are.

Heath Lambert's UK managing director Adrian Colosso said: "In securing a long-term lease on new premises, our Swindon staff will be in a better position to help achieve our desired level of service excellence."
