WILTSHIRE'S first community composting facility is to be based at CARE Rowde, a centre for people with learning disabilities.
It opens on Monday and Rowde residents can take their organic garden waste to the site where it will be transformed into garden compost, which they can buy at a reasonable price.
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's waste prevention manager Eleanor Noel-Johnson said: "This facility is unique.
"Not only is it the first community composting site in Wiltshire, but it will also be run as a social enterprise, giving adults with a learning disability the opportunity to manage their own business."
The scheme has been organised by the wildlife trust in conjunction with the Wiltshire Waste Partnership, with funding from Wiltshire County Council, Defra and Viridor.
