GAZETTE & HERALD: POLICE suspect children or a traveller could behind a burglary at a secluded gliding school in Yatesbury.
The thief broke into a portable building at The Wiltshire Hang-gliding School, which is on the site of Yatesbury's former RAF airfield, near the A4, between 7.30pm on May 25 and 9.30am on Wednesday.
Police say £12 in cash was stolen, but that the offender also stayed to devour a can of beer, some cherry bakewell tarts and milk, found at the site.
WPC Marina Hatcher, from Calne Police Station, said: "It could be children or it could be someone who's down and out, like a tramp or a traveller."
The thief used a hammer to prise open a padlock securing a door on the cabin and removed an empty cash box.
A window on a nearby car was also forced open where the empty wrappers from the food and drink were discovered.
The police are appealing for witnesses, but WPC Hatcher said because the site is so isolated and poorly lit it may be difficult to find anyone who saw what happened.
But if anyone does have any information they should telephone WPC Hatcher at Calne Police Station on (01249) 812106.
