MEMBERS of the public have been told about the opportunities available to become a volunteer.
Action Kennet helped organise a display in Devizes Market Place last Thursday to coincide with National Volunteers Week.
A nine foot tall clown helped to attract the attention of the public and staff at Voluntary Action Kennet gave out information to people interested in volunteering.
In Kennet there are 209 voluntary organisations and without volunteers they would struggle to exist.
Alison Reed, outreach volunteer enabler of Voluntary Action Kennet, said people were interested in the organisations in the district.
She said: "A lot of people didn't realise what the variety of opportunities were. People think volunteering is about getting a collection tin and standing outside a supermarket.
"But there is a range of volunteering work from being a befriender to gardening for housebound people."
Mrs Reed and her colleagues handed out information packs. The packs included details about six different voluntary organisations which were chosen at random.
