GAZETTE & HERALD: By Brook Valley School will celebrate the opening of its brand new IT suite on June 18 with a tribute to the many sponsors and supporters who contributed to the cause.

The primary school in Yatton Keynell will call the new facility the Pat Strawford Suite, after the wife of the suite's main sponsor, Howard Strawford, chairman of the Castle Combe Circuit.

Mr Strawford heard about the fund raising campaign through a friend who was also a school governor and generously decided to support his local school.

North Wiltshire MP James Gray will officiate at the opening, and visitors will have the chance to tour the suite and its 17 computers.

The suite cost a total of £65,000 and the Castle Combe Circuit made a donation of £2,500 towards the total.

Parents raised £6,000, with fundraising activities including a Buy A Brick campaign. The school set aside money from its own budgets and received help from the Government's Seed Challenge fund.

Headteacher Bev Ball said the suite looked lovely and the building work had proceeded smoothly.

The computers should be up and running by the end of the week.

"Mr Strawford chose the name of the suite, as the main sponsor," said Mrs Ball. "I think it is a very appropriate school as Mrs Strawford worked as secretary at the Castle Combe primary school, and when she left she learned lots of ICT skills, so she is an excellent example of life long learning."
