SAM PARKIN may have caught the eye of the Tigers but Town's leading scorer is more than happy to start the forthcoming campaign as a rampaging Robin.

Hull City's £250,000 verbal bid for the 23-year-old striker has been rejected out of hand by the County Ground board and the player himself has reiterated that he is more than happy with life in Wiltshire.

Parkin insists he is not angling for a move and chief executive Mark Devlin has made it quite clear that there is no pressure to relinquish the club's most prized asset.

Parkin, currently enjoying a break in Crete, is not unsettled by the Tigers' interest and has dropped a heavy hint that joining another Division Two club would not be the kind of career progression that interests him.

Speaking exclusively to the Evening Advertiser, Parkin said: "I have heard a few whispers but nothing more than that.

"As I've said on more than one occasion, I've signed a two-year contract which I feel demonstrates my commitment to the club.

"If offers come in for me then that's out of my hands.

"I can't really talk about Hull City as I don't know the details.

"All I'll say is that my ambition in football is to progress and that would mean playing in a higher league one day.

"I'm not someone that's motivated by money.

"I think those who know me well are aware of that."

While Parkin is looking forward to resuming pre-season as a Town player, chief executive Mark Devlin will be just as happy to see the man known as Super Sammy reporting back for duty.

He said: "We received a verbal offer of £250,000 from Hull City for Sam Parkin but it was rejected out of hand at board level.

"We are not looking to sell Sam and aren't in a position where we have to sell.

"It may be that some clubs feel we are in that situation.

"Two years ago this club was on its knees and the sort of sum being offered would have been very tempting.

"Things are still incredibly tight but the fact that we agreed a two-year deal with Sam hopefully demonstrates that we are serious when we say we want to keep him."

With the Tigers having been told to look elsewhere in no uncertain terms, Hull boss Peter Taylor appears to have turned his attention to Bristol City's unsettled striker Lee Peacock.

Of the club's bid for Parkin, Hull City chairman Adam Pearson told the Tigers' official website: "At the moment we're now considering other options that are open to us in terms of recruiting a centre-forward."

Town may not have gained promotion but they will be playing in Division One next season.

Divisions One, Two and Three will be renamed The Championship, League One and League Two after the plans received the formal approval of club chairmen at The League's summer meeting in Chester.
