28344/3GREEN-fingered pupils at a Westbury pre-school will learn about the great outdoors after planting a sensory garden.
Cygnets Pre-school, based at Westbury Leigh School, is a transforming a muddy patch into a garden with flowers to educate the children.
The garden will be full of different scents and sights as the pupils get the opportunity to learn about the wonders of nature.
Helen Taylor, a pre-school committee member, believes the garden will be a valuable addition to the curriculum.
She said: "Before this they have had nowhere to go, because there was only a muddy patch outside and we could not take them off the site.
"Now they will be able to look at the flowers and will hopefully get the chance to learn all about gardening.
"One of their topics in the term is mini beasts and previously they have struggled to find any, but now hopefully the garden will attract butterflies and other creatures."
Mrs Taylor, whose four-year-old son James attends Cygnets, admitted she was surprised by the help the pre-school has received.
She said: "Everyone has been great. Different people have donated things to help us get it up and running.
"We were looking for a new shed and Homebase, Frome were brilliant in providing us with one. I didn't expect it.
"It is very exciting for everyone involved because we will be bringing education into the school."
