WILTSHIRE'S development side got their season off to a positive start on Thursday with a 32-run win over the RAF at Warminster.
The friendly match saw Wiltshire bat first and reach a 248-8 in their 50 overs. Among the batsmen to shine were Westbury's South African all rounder Joe Breet (60), Warminster's Richard Underdown (44) and Biddestone skipper Dwaine Perry (35).
The RAF produced a spirited reply, but were all out for 216 in 46 overs. Devizes seamer James Ashford-Brown was the pick of the Wiltshire attack with 4-24 and he earned himself a call up to the full Wiltshire side for this weekend's Minor Counties Championship game against Cornwall.
Wiltshire match manager Brian White said: "When the players finish the under 17s there is no cricket at all funded by the ECB until you get to minor counties level. This team helps to fill in that gap.
"We have an under 19 team playing Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire in late July and August. But the development team also gives us the opportunity to look at people who are over 19 and give them the experience of playing at a higher level."
