FAILURE to recruit enough doctors and nurses has been criticised in a report attacking west Wiltshire health bosses.

The full report by the Health Commission into standards at West Wiltshire Primary Care Trust was released this week.

Inspectors behind the Clinical Governance Review criticised the trusts inability to attract sufficient medical staff, which led to ward closures at Warminster and Westbury hospitals.

Further findings attacked poor infection control, failing to stop bullying and abuse in the workplace, no tagging of babies in maternity wards and for not telling the public about ward closures.

The report said: "The PCT needs to ensure that the public and other partners and stakeholders are clearly informed of these changes which have been implemented at short notice in some cases."

The Health Commission has handed a list of urgent improvements required immediately to West Wiltshire PCT.

Trust bosses are now drawing up an action plan and has implemented a range of new management posts since the report was compiled.
