15280/1A HOMELESS charity in Trowbridge is installing thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment thanks to a cash grant from high street bank Barclays.
Representatives from Barclays Bank presented a £5,000 cheque to Action on Homelessness on Friday, so the centre can purchase up to four computers, three of which will have broadband internet access.
Centre manager Marco Van Tintelen said some of the money would be used to fund a DVD media system, to screen educational videos.
West Wiltshire MP Dr Andrew Murrison, a keen supporter of the centre, gave his backing to the scheme, aimed
at helping homeless people find places on training courses or employment.
Mr Van Tintelen said: "Some of the computers have already been purchased, so from next week our clients can have access to broadband.
"They can look for jobs and use the computers to enhance their skills. We were really pleased with the donation.
"Dr Murrison is always interested in the work we do. He does a lot of campaigning to create better options for vulnerable people."
On average 35 people use the Duke Street drop-in centre every day, with a lack of accommodation becoming a serious concern in west Wiltshire.
