RELATIVES of Trowbridge cancer victim Rachel Deadman helped raise more than £2,000 in a single day for the hospital unit which cared for her.
Husband Rob Deadman launched his bid to raise £10,000 for the Royal United Hospital's cancer unit with a Hawaiian-themed fundraising event at Asda in Trowbridge on Saturday.
Rachel died last month following a courageous three-year battle with cervical cancer.
Her sister Caroline Laba, who works at the Bythesea Road store, was joined by colleagues for a day of grass skirts, leis and garish shirts.
Rachel's three children joined in the event, with three-year-old Kyle waving his very own collecting bucket at customers.
Mr Deadman, of Fleur de Lys Drive, Southwick, said he was overwhelmed after raising £2,228 more than a fifth towards his £10,000 goal.
"I was there from 9.10am and everything was up and running," he said.
"It was a real family occasion. Rachel's parents were running the barbecue and the children had collection boxes.
"I was aiming for around £1,500 so to raise what we did was amazing. It brought a smile to my face. It makes you feel quite choked to think you might make a difference to other families."
Asda fundraising co-ordinator Chris Penelhum said he was thrilled with the amount raised, adding: "It was such a fantastic day, I am really proud of everyone who helped."
