Simon Midgley who got a hole-in-one playing golf in Devon. DA5737P2A THREE Legged Cross publican enjoyed the 19th hole even more than usual in a recent golfing tournament.
Simon Midgley and his wife Pam had already won the couple's tournament, when they decided to play one more hole before going to the clubhouse.
Simon, who is landlord at the Old Barn Farm on Ringwood Road, took a seven iron out for the 192-yard shot, and to his amazement hit a hole-in-one.
"Because we'd done a shotgun start, there was this one hole on the way back to the clubhouse, so we thought we'd play it," said Simon.
"The hole went down a long way, and the ball kept rolling and rolling until it went in.
"It made it all worthwhile, but it was quite expensive going back into the bar!"
He says he will never use the ball again "just in case", so will probably mount it to commemorate the achievement.
Having won the competition, held at Mortehoe and Woolacombe golf club, Pam and Simon are now entered into a regional round.
If they were ultimately successful in a national tournament, they would then play in an international competition in America.
Simon, who admits to being more than a little keen on golf, is now planning a 72-hole golfing marathon and is looking for a local good cause to benefit.
"I've done it once before, and it took about 12 hours, but I'd like to do it for a local charity - something where people can see where the money has gone," he said.
Anyone with a good cause to suggest can contact Simon at the Old Barn Farm, Ringwood Road, Three Legged Cross, BH21 6RE.
