I READ with amusement the letter from Lesley Everson Regent Street dated June 10.
I am not sure what was classed as the 'World' in the analysis but I can assure her/him that if they have really travelled 'The World' and seen life in those places (such as Europe, Africa, Asia, America etc), then Swindon is a palace compared to the many places I have seen in those continents.
Sure there are cleaner places than Swindon but 'around The World' you want to trash the place as the worst?
Compared to Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Rio, Manila, Paris, Taipei, New York, Seoul, Penang I can tell you that Swindon is cleaner and greener than all of them!
Every place has its good and its bad you just have to balance them to appreciate the quality of the life and appreciate the culture and living experience.
All I can say is it must have been a successful career path that brought you all the way back to Regent Street in sunny Swindon... and you never checked the place you chose to settle in first before you made the move? Obviously a seasoned and well travelled person!
Incidentally, I live in the Philippines now and you can come and see filth like you would never imagine. But I wouldn't give that up for the quality and decency of the people here can make up for anything! I guess sometimes people's priorities in life are a little diverse...
If I ever return to England, then I will definitely return to Swindon town the place will always be my home!
