AN Eldene man is facing a prison sentence after admitting carrying out a string of sex attacks on a young girl.

Martyn Ricketts admitted raping the girl as well as carrying out a series of attacks on the victim over a four-year period.

The 29-year-old has been told he faces a lengthy jail term.

Ricketts, of Islandsmead, Eldene, pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and two of gross indecency with a child.

He pleaded not guilty to further counts of rape and attempted rape and they will be left to lie on the file.

All of the matters relate to a time between January 1, 2000, and December 31, last year.

Paul Highams, defending, told Swindon Crown Court that he wanted a psychologist to compile a report on his client before he is sentenced.

Adjourning the case, Judge John McNaught said: "I am going to put off the question of sentencing for two months so your legal team can get more information about you.

"Let's understand each other. These are very serious offences for which a hefty sentence of imprisonment is inevitable whatever the report says. Meanwhile you are to stay in custody."

He said that Ricketts would also have to register as a sex offender.
