INDEPENDENT financial advisor Barchester Green, of Catherine Street in Salisbury, has welcomed new guidelines released by the department of trade and industry on regulations for the operating and financial review.

OFR has been reinforced by the government as a way of requiring UK businesses to report on all ethical, social and environmental risks, which may have an impact on the business.

Barchester Green principal Geoff Griffiths said: "For the best companies, this added reporting obligation will not be a burden and will actually put them one step ahead of the competition.

"Social and ethical issues could become the next major focus of external stakeholders in much the same way that pensions and executive pay were previously.

"This will be a good thing because investors will be able to see much more clearly which businesses are acting responsibly, and those which are not."
