After more than 30 years of services to education, Hamp-shire county council's education chief has been awarded a CBE.

Andrew Seber, who has been Hampshire's county education officer since 1998, joined the council in 1983 and was promoted through a number of roles before spending nine years as deputy education officer.

He is also a member of the Learning and Skills Council and a company director of the local careers service.

In addition, Mr Seber (53) was the national president of ConfEd, the confederation of education service managers, from July 2002 to January 2004.

He said: "I am pleased to receive this honour, not just on a personal basis but also for the recognition which it gives to the whole service. I feel privileged to have worked in public service with so many excellent colleagues.

"I would like to pay special tribute to colleagues in our schools, colleges and early years centres who work hard to provide the very best for children and adult learners."
