GOING for a swim in Salisbury's pool costs more than anywhere else in the south west, according to a survey published this week.
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy said it had uncovered statistics that show Salisbury's charge for a swim, at just over £3 is the highest in the region covering Wiltshire, Dorset, Cornwall, Gloucester-shire, Devon and Bristol.
One of the highest charges is the country is at Breckland in Norfolk, where the charge is £3.60, while swimmers in Teesdale, County Durham, pay £1.40 a session.
In the south west, charges in Dorset pools are £2.60, and in Stroud, Gloucestershire, the cost is just £1.70.
Society chairman Grahame Pope said the average cost for England and Wales was £2.77 and the average for the south-west £2.29.
He said: "Local authorities should prioritise access to sports facilities if they are to play their part in addressing obesity and enhancing public health."
