SWINDON CARES: Four months may seem like a long time but when you're trying to get fit for a half marathon the time can go quickly.
That's why the Evening Advertiser is urging people to start getting in shape now for this year's 13-mile run in aid of Swindon Cares.
We have teamed up with Swindon Council and Nationwide Building Society to host the run on October 17.
Anyone is welcome to take part. There will also be a 4.3-mile fun run for the less energetic and a two-mile jog for youngsters.
Swindon Cares is a local umbrella charity, supported by Swindon businesses, that makes donations to Age Concern Swindon, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the GWR Community Trust.
Race director Peter Robinson emphasised the fun element but warned the half marathon, which will take in parts of Liddington and Wanborough, will not be easy.
"We aim to make this an annual community event," he said.
Two shorter courses will be at Coate Water.
For more information call 01793 464754 or visit www.swindonhalfmarathon.co.uk, where a downloadable application form can be found.
The closing date for entries is October 4.
