The courageous widow sent the intruder packing after threatening him with her walking stick.
But he still managed to steal £50 in cash and her post office book.
The Wroughton pensioner woke up in the early hours of the morning to find the man standing in her bedroom doorway.
"Luckily, I had my wits about me, but it still shook me up a lot, she said.
"I didn't sleep for three days afterwards.
"I just kept thinking of him being in my room.
"It's a very traumatic having a stranger in your own home.
"I think the police are doing their best to deal with the problem."
The thief entered Edith's home via an open window."It was a hot night, and I thought nothing of leaving my window open. Now, I always ensure my windows are closed between I go to bed."
