A young Malmesbury U13 side battled well to just hold on to a losing draw in their match at Chippenham.
Batting first, the home side scored freely thanks to fine batting from James Bull (80 not out), Tom Young (64) and Uzi Qureshi (39 not out). Chippenham declared at an imposing 256-2 in just 32 overs. Malmesbury's resistance began with a dogged opening stand between Daniel Bye (15) and Robert Gillespie (12).
Once this partnership was broken, wickets started to fall regularly but Malmesbury managed to survive for the draw finishing on 111-9. Nick Harrison (3-16) and Ryan Merryweather (2-1) were the leading Chippenham bowlers (Chippenham 15 points, Mamlmesbury 6 points).
Cannings were involved in a thrilling game that ended in a last-ball tie at home to Swindon. Consistent batting from Nathan Jones (44), Rory Brown (22), Neil Clark (47) and Owen Alsop (22) helped Cannings reach 167-6 in their 35 overs. Richard Smith took 2-22 for Swindon.
The Swindon reply was built around a solid innings of 63 from Sam Pinchin and he was well supported by Chris Aubrey (24) and Steve Laggett (19). Wickets then began to fall as Jake Roberts (3-22), Henry Davies (3-26), and Rory Brown (2-36) bowled well for Cannings.
Chris Wells (24 not out) held together the latter part of the Swindon batting but, with just one run needed for victory, the final wicket fell off the last ball of the game to leave the match tied (Cannings 14 points, Swindon 12 points).
