WILTSHIRE completed a comprehensive 237-run victory over Cornwall at Trowbridge for their first Minor Counties Championship win of 2004.

Captained by Neil Shardlow in the absence of the injured Russell Rowe, Wiltshire won the toss and scored 251 in their first innings which consisted of two main partnerships - 98 for the fifth wicket between Michael Coles, 68, and Richard Foley, 36, and 77 for the ninth between Richard Bedbrook, 64, and Kevin Nash, 23.

Cornwall started well and the score stood at 170-2 when an injury to Ben Price, then on 71, caused him to retire. With Wiltshire spinners Richard Foley, 4-52, and Richard Bates, 3-66, taking control, Cornwall were bowled out for 231 giving the home county a lead of 20. Price had returned and moved on to 85 not out.

In reply, Wiltshire started well with an opening stand of 50 between Ollie Smith, 58, his first half century for the county, and Jon Chandler, 21.

They were reduced to 118-5 before Steve Perrin, 102, joined Richard Foley, 67 not out, to break the record for Wiltshire's sixth wicket with a partnership of 173.

Wiltshire declared on 303-8 leaving Cornwall a minimum of 75 overs to score 324 to win.

But after lunch on the third day Cornwall were bowled out for just 86 in 38 overs with Richard Bates taking 3-16, Kevin Nash, 2-15, and James Ashford Brown 2-12.

Wiltshire's next match is their Minor Counties Knock Out Cup tie with Herefordshire at Lucton-ians C C, Kingsland.
