A PAIR from Wiltshire County Council has been setting an environmentally-friendly example to colleagues by cycling to work on a tandem this week.
Calne county councillor Nancy Bryant joined traffic engineer Martin Cook to cycle to County Hall in Trowbridge from their homes in Calne on Monday.
The 15-mile cycle ride is one of a number of events being held by the county council to mark Wiltshire Bike Week, which ends on Sunday. Keen cyclist Mr Cook challenged Coun Bryant to join him on his tandem after she heard that he regularly cycles to work two days a week.
Mr Cook said: "I generally cycle to work a couple of days each week throughout the year unless the weather is really bad.
"I enjoy cycling. It is both a good way to keep fit and also to do your bit for the environment at the same time."
Coun Bryant, cabinet member for community and staffing, said: "All too often we use the car when there are more environmentally-friendly alternatives available.
"For example, there's cycling, walking and using public transport. By cycling into work with Martin I want to show colleagues that it is possible to leave the car at home."
