GAZETTE & HERALD: Calne Town Council has agreed to increase the grant to the town's bowls club to £1,500.
The bowls club has been struggling with a shortage of money following an increase in the cost of maintaining the bowling green at the recreation ground in Anchor Road.
The green is regularly spiked, cored and scarified and is mowed three times a week during the bowling season and labour costs have risen from £1,200 to £3,000 a year.
The club used to share the cost of maintenance with the council and so received £600 every year, said bowls club treasurer Bryan Tovey.
The club could find half of the revised costs but needed an additional £1,500 from the council.
At a meeting last week the council agreed to increase its funding to £1,500.
Town mayor Carol O'Gorman said: "We agreed to the extra funding because the club hasn't had an increase for a number of years.
"But we are also writing to the club to encourage members to look for additional funding from other sources."
