CHRIS PETHICK is the man charged with the task of following in the footsteps of departing Purton boss Alan Clark.

Former Wroughton chief Pethick has taken the managerial reins at the Red House after Clark's switch to Hellenic League rivals Witney.

Clark had led Purton on a remarkable unbeaten charge to the Division One West title last season, but the club's lack of floodlights denied them promotion, and the manager switched to Witney who were elevated to the Premier.

So Pethick has a tough act to follow, but will be ably assisted by Shaun Clark.

The pair worked in tandem at Wiltshire League Wroughton but stepped down after the club's Weir Field ground became unplayable eventually forcing the club to withdraw from their division.

Purton president and secretary Alan Eastwood said: "Chris has a good knowledge of local football and will endeavour to bring in new faces to Purton."

The club have also appointed Micky Hilt as reserve team manager. Gordon Shaw and Andy Drury take over the A team who play in the Cirencester League.

Pre-season training starts at the Red House on Tuesday, June 28, 6.30pm.

All existing players and any new players are welcome to attend.

n Cirencester Town have announced a new addition to their off-field team.

Chairman Steve Abbley has appointed Steve Mattos, who will take up the new full-time role of Football Administrator.

"The success of the Corinium Stadium as a social venue has enabled us to make this appointment," said Abbley.

"Anna Kocerhan, the club's general manager, will now be able to focus more on this side of the business."

Mattos joins the Centurions having been secretary of Charlton Rovers FC for 20 years and chairman of the Cheltenham & District Youth League.
