13344/2ROYALTY ruled the day at Bishops Cannings School's annual fete. Pupils Sam Carey and Leah Summers, both aged five, were crowned as summer king and queen by Bishops Cannings parish council chairman Tony Adamson.
The summer king and queen is an annual tradition and all pupils vote for the two reception class children they would like to represent the school at the fete.
The fete was held for the first time on a Saturday, usually it is held on a Friday evening.
Deputy head Celia Hicks said: "We decided to move it to a Saturday as we wanted to make it more of a village event. We had a lot more people attend as a result. There were 150 pupils and their families who came and the weather also helped to bring people out."
As well as a number of stalls and a barbecue, youngsters and their families were kept entertained by a variety of demonstrations.
There was a judo display run by a parent who runs the school judo club.
Another parent ran the football tournament which attracted entries from local schools. Rowde Primary School pupils were the winners.
Pupils who regularly practise maypole dancing under the tutelage of teacher Sarah Eaton demonstrated their prowess.
Also popular were rides on the Wadworth dray.
Mrs Hicks said: "They took people on rides up and down the village and were very popular. They could have gone on all afternoon."
