Ref. 30935-30FILMMAKERS of the future will be showcasing their work at a special film festival which Swindon College is planning to make an annual event.

The students will screen 15 short films at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road, Old Town next week, giving members of the public a chance to view their talents.

The films range from documentaries to mystery movies, and were produced by final year students on the national diploma in Moving Image course.

Lewis Webb, 18, has three films on show.

He said: "It's great to be able to show our finished films to family and friends in a proper cinema setting.

"I am interested in working in the media when I am older and this course has helped me think more creatively."

After the course, Lewis is going to the University of Gloucester to do media communications and film studies. Andy Trace, 18, worked in the same group as Lewis. The film they are most proud of is called Paranoia and was set in the woods at Lydiard Park.

He said: "I liked the way we shot that film, it was arty and looked good.

"I love filming and editing. I got into it when I filmed my friends skateboarding and it went from there."

Andy, who is going to the University of Glamorgan, says he most admires the work of Quentin Tarrantino, director of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

His friend Claire Riley, 20, will be going to Luton Uni-versity next year.

She is screening three films, including one called Three Simple Words, which is about a woman with depression.

Their course is very much hands on and involves audio-visual production skills as well as developing critical techniques.

Course tutor Darren Rogers said: "This is going to be an annual event which will showcase the best work by Swindon College students. We wanted to bring moving images to a wider audience."

Darren is working with cre8 Studios, the South West Regional Film Development Agency to organise a regional film festival for young people across the south west.

Anyone interested in learning more about the film show, or the moving image and animation courses should contact Darren at the college on 01793 498442.
