As Carers' Week 2004 started on June 14 I would like to take this opportunity to thank the six million carers in the United Kingdom whose valuable support enables their relatives or friends to be cared for in their own home.
Macmillan Cancer Relief recognises the important role that carers play in helping people live with cancer, we are also only too well aware of the difficulties carers face.
That is why Macmillan has developed a number of ways of helping carers to share the challenges associated with caring.
We have 29 befriending and carers schemes which provide help such as one-to-one friendship, emotional support, information and advice, and support to enable the carer to take a much needed break.
Macmillan grants also provide help to those on low incomes and are made via a health care professional. To find out more call 0808 808 2020.
