GAZETTE & HERALD: WAYNE Bull, 29, who swore at and insulted police officers outside the Rose and Crown pub in Chippenham, has been fined £60 by the town's magistrates.

Bull, of Royal Oak Close, Chippenham, had pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly at a hearing on April 27, but a second charge of assaulting a police officer was discontinued because CCTV evidence had not been produced.

Andy Pritchard, prosecuting, said Bull was drinking in the pub in the early hours of March 20.

A member of staff saw two men bump into each other by the exit but when one man offered an apology, the other would not accept it and began pushing.

A doorman tried to stop him but the pushing continued, so the man, who was later identified as Bull, was grabbed in a headlock and ejected from the pub.

The police arrived and tried to calm the situation but Bull began swearing and shouting abuse, so he was arrested.

Mike Jeary, defending, said Bull was a single working man and had little recollection of the events of that night because of the amount he had been drinking.

"He has always admitted he misbehaved and said so in an interview with the police," said Mr Jeary.

He said Bull was now addressing his heavy drinking and would be seeing a counsellor.

Bull was also ordered to pay £43 costs.
