A WESTBURY landlord has started a search to find the town's pub sportsperson of the year.
Kevin Kingwell, bar manager of the Crown, is holding a competition among his regulars on Sunday before taking on other pubs in the area.
Each competitor will have to compete in darts, pool and skittles and the winner will be the person with the most points out of all three disciplines.
Mr Kingwell is hoping Sunday's winner will then compete against champions from other pubs.
He said: "We have got all the facilities needed for pub sports here and so I thought why not start up a big competition?
"The main point of it is giving my customers some fun but there will also be a competitive edge about it.
"It is always the quiet ones you have to look out for and I expect the winner to be someone who I didn't even know played any of these sports."
Mr Kingwell said another reason for having the competition was to keep some of the old pub traditions alive.
He said: "Our job is to provide a service to the public. The new theme pubs are great for big gangs but we have lost the old pub attitude.
"We are a good old-fashioned pub with a bar and a lounge and we will stay that way. We are not a karaoke pub or a disco, we like to stick to old traditions like pub sports."
Anyone interested in taking part in the competition on Sunday can contact Mr Kingwell on (01373) 822828.
