AS part of the Wiltshire Bowls Association's 90th anniversary celebrations, a match was played against the visiting Dennyside Bowls Association at the Cooper-Avon Bowls Club (Melksham) on Monday.
Many of the Dennyside players had travelled long distances to play in this match and their players were drawn from as far away as Devon and Suffolk.
Dennyside, named after founder Leonard Denny, is a bowls association that raises funds for charity at all their matches.
On this occasion the charity was the Stroke Association.
The guest of honour was Michael MacMahon, the regional fundraising officer for the Stroke Association, who was presented with a cheque for £1,100 at the after-match meal.
The money was raised through the donations of the players and officials from both teams, with Dennyside also contributing to the final total from their own club funds.
The match was played in a wonderful spirit and the result was a 111-96 win for the visitors.
Scores (Wiltshire skips first): Bernard Crabb 23, Mike Harman 21; Howard Pryse 16, Robert Taylor 23; John Wilks 14, Mike Rich 16; Adie Lloyd 10, Vernon Tabiner 21; Howard Brewer 17, Frank Maynard 13; Jack Clay 16, Mike Haigh 17.
Wiltshire will play one more celebration match for their 90th anniversary, at Melksham Town on July 13 when they will entertain the Barbarians Bowls Association.
