IF last week's feature 'Council moves to boost sports' was intended to generate a buzz of excitement amongst local football clubs and leagues it was a miserable attempt.
Confidence in the town and district councils of being capable to deliver any urgently required football amenities could not be at a lower ebb.
Even if this bid is successful, and it could be a big if, the council, by its own admission, will not have anything in place by the start of yet another season.
We are not knocking any attempt to provide facilities.
What we are knocking is that we have been banging our heads against a council wall for years. Only a delivery will inject confidence.
It is a sad reflection on society today that any authority has to consider vandal-proof facilities but, Mr Nash, what is the point of providing new dressing rooms on site if West Wiltshire District Council fails to mark the pitches out in the first place?
TIM PENWELL
Trowbridge and District Football League Development Officer.
