As a child, 38-year-old David Nash wanted to be a train driver when he grew up.
The management trainer may have failed in that ambition but the Labour leader who has lived in and around Birmingham most of his life, made up for it by moving to the old railway town of Swindon in 1998. Coun Nash lives in Abbey Meads with his wife and two children.
The Zurich worker, who has been a councillor for the Central ward since 2002, said his goal was to make a difference to people's lives.
"I want to help Labour re-establish itself, and boost Swindon's civic pride," he said. "Not just for those who were born and bred here but for incomers too.
"People want to recognise and be part of a town that's going places. My belief is that people will achieve more by working together and looking after each other."
